The team’s lead car, dubbed ‘DR4’ #118, has an all independent custom hand built suspension using the best materials available. The chassis supports a fully blueprinted rear-mounted BMW M Series 6 cylinder engine that runs a front mounted radiator. A Motec engine management system has been installed to provide full data logging.
The gear box is the trusted close ratio 5 speed Gertrag running up to a remote transfer case provident optional full time 4WD. The front and rear differentials are BMW manufactured – as used in the late spec Range Rover.
Brakes are hi-spec lightweight racing callipers with the front 6 POT and the hosting 4 POT. Special brake pads are required to keep DR4 in touch with the surface. The calipers are fixed to specially built hubs made from Billet Alloy and the heavy-duty drive shafts run through.
The Rally Special Freelander has an F.I.A. spec full roll cage. The car is fitted with full intercom system, transponder data logger, a satellite telephone, full GPS system, and two UHF radios. Plus it has a mobile phone and an EPIRB installed.
